چکیده

Inspired by cold boot attacks, Heninger and Shacham (Crypto 2009) initiated the study of the problem of how to recover an RSA private key from a noisy version of that key. They gave an algorithm for the case where some bits of the private key are known with certainty. Their ideas were extended by Henecka, May and Meurer (Crypto 2010) to produce an algorithm that works when all the key bits are subject to error. In this paper, we bring a coding-theoretic viewpoint to bear on the problem of noisy RSA key recovery. This viewpoint allows us to cast the previous work as part of a more general framework. In turn, this enables us to explain why the previous algorithms do not solve the motivating cold boot problem, and to design a new algorithm that does (and more). In addition, we are able to use concepts and tools from coding theory – channel capacity, list decoding algorithms, and random coding techniques – to derive bounds on the performance of the previous algorithms and our new algorithm.

RSA Meets DPA: Recovering RSA Secret Keys from Noisy Analog Data

We discuss how to recover RSA secret keys from noisy analog data obtained through physical attacks such as cold boot and side channel attacks. Many studies have focused on recovering correct secret keys from noisy binary data. Obtaining noisy binary keys typically involves first observing the analog data and then obtaining the binary data through quantization process that discards much informat...

Recovering RSA Secret Keys from Noisy Key Bits with Erasures and Errors

We discuss how to recover RSA secret keys from noisy key bits with erasures and errors. There are two known algorithms recovering original secret keys from noisy keys. At Crypto 2009, Heninger and Shacham proposed a method for the case where an erroneous version of secret keys contains only erasures. Subsequently, Henecka et al. proposed a method for an erroneous version containing only errors ...

Improved Key Recovery Algorithms from Noisy RSA Secret Keys with Analog Noise

From the proposal of key-recovery algorithms for RSA secret key from its noisy version at Crypto2009, there have been considerable researches on RSA key recovery from discrete noise. At CHES2014, two efficient algorithms for recovering secret keys are proposed from noisy analog data obtained through physical attacks such as side channel attacks. One of the algorithms works even if the noise dis...

Longer Randomly Blinded RSA Keys May Be Weaker Than Shorter Ones

Side channel leakage from smart cards has been of concern since their inception and counter-measures are routinely employed. So a number of standard and reasonable assumptions are made here regarding an implementation of RSA in a cryptographic token which may be subjected to non-invasive side-channel cryptanalysis. These include blinding the re-usable secret key, input whitening, and using an e...

Computational Fuzzy Extractors

Fuzzy extractors derive strong keys from noisy sources. Their security is defined informationtheoretically, which limits the length of the derived key, sometimes making it too short to be useful. We ask whether it is possible to obtain longer keys by considering computational security, and show the following. • Negative Result: Noise tolerance in fuzzy extractors is usually achieved using an in...
